Seton Hill hosted Shippensburg on a cold, snowy and windy Saturday afternoon looking to extend its winning streak to four games. The Griffins pulled away in the second half for a 15-8 victory, extending their winning streak to four games. The Griffins improve to 6-7 overall and 5-4 in PSAC action.
Emily Fagan got the Griffins on the scoreboard first with a goal from
Renee Kania just 1:18 into the contest.
Charlotte Cunningham extended the Griffins lead to 2-0 with a goal from
Mackenzie Kilduff with 22:27 left in the half. Less than a minute later,
Savannah Monroe scored her first goal of the game to extend the SHU lead to 3-0. Shippensburg scored the next two goals of the game to trim the SHU lead to 3-2 with 17:12 to go in the half. With just over ten minutes left in the half, Cunningham scored her second goal of the game with an assist from Monroe. With 2:22 to play in the half, Kania scored her first of the game off a feed from Cunningham that pushed the SHU lead to three at 5-2. Ship scored the final goal of the half and trailed 5-3 at the halftime break.
The second half of the game was all Griffins as they scored 10 of the first 12 goals of the half.
Alessandra Nicholas scored the first goal of the second half on a free position shot less than three minutes into the half. Thirteen seconds later Nicholas followed a draw control from Fagan with a goal, extending the SHU lead to 7-3. Fagan then scored an athletic goal, going high in the air to grab a pass from Cunningham and depositing it in the back of the net. Thirty three seconds later, Monroe scored her second goal of the game to give SHU a 9-3 lead just over five minutes into the half. Monroe scored her third of the game, this one from
Katelyn Cressman pushing the SHU lead to 10-3. Nicholas scored her second free position goal and Cressman followed with an unassisted goal that pushed the SHU lead to 12-3 with 18:26 left in the contest. Ship got their fourth goal of the game but Monroe answered right back twenty two seconds later keeping the Griffins lead at nine. Nicholas scored her fourth of the game, giving the Griffins a 10 goal lead and putting into effect the running clock rule. Monroe closed out the SHU scoring with a free position goal with 9:15 left in the game.
Monroe led the Griffin offense with 5 goals and 1 assist. Nicholas finished the contest with 4 goals. Cunningham added 2 goals and 3 assists. Fagan finished with 2 goals, 8 draw controls, 4 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers. Cressman added a goal and assist and Kania closed out the game with a goal and 3 assists.
Meghan Hollar earned the win in net with 4 saves.
Melanie Morgret also recorded 3 saves in net.
SHU will hit the road for a non conference neutral site matchup with #8 Florida Southern in Annapolis, MD on Sunday afternoon.
