Crazy Comeback Carries Griffins to Victory

Seton Hill hosted Gannon on Wednesday afternoon looking to extend its winning streak to three games.  The Griffins found themselves down 10-2 with 19 minutes left in the second half but used one of the craziest comebacks in Seton Hill history to rally for a 12-11 victory over the Knights.  SHU scored five goals to cut the lead to 10-7 before a Knights goal.  The Griffins then closed out the game with five straight goals.  SHU improves to 5-7 overall and 4-4 in PSAC play.

The Seton Hill offense sputtered in the first half as they could only find the back of the net once and managed just six shots.  Gannon scored the first four goals of the half and led 4-0 just over eleven minutes into the half.  Renee Kania scored an unassisted goal at the 14:54 mark of the half to cut the lead to 4-1.  The Knights then closed the half on a 4-0 run to take a 8-1 lead into the halftime break.

The Griffins scored the first goal of the second half when Alexis Petrarca found Alessandra Nicholas for her first goal of the game.  The Knights then scored two straight to take a 10-2 lead with 18:59 to play in the half.  Just 33 seconds later, Hannah Powell found Kania off a free position shot for a goal.  Less than a minute later, Savannah Monroe scored from Kania, cutting the Knights lead to 10-4.  Just over a minute later, Monroe scored her second of the game, this one on a free position shot.  Nicholas followed with a free position shot goal that trimmed the Knights lead to 10-6 with 14:27 to play in the half.  Mackenzie Kilduff then got on the scoreboard off an assist from Nicholas at the 11:52 mark of the half.  The Knights then scored their final goal of the game to push their lead back to 11-7 with 11:16 to play in the half.

Monroe won the next draw control and got the ball to Kania who found Nicholas for her third goal of the game.  After Emily Fagan won the next draw control, Monroe scored her third of the game to cut the Knights lead to 11-9 with just under 11 minutes left in the game.  With just over eight minutes to play, Kilduff took a pass from Charlotte Cunningham and deposited it in the back of the net to cut the Knights lead to one.  Less than a minute later the Griffins tied the game at 11 on a goal from Nicholas off an assist from Fagan.  The momentum continued for the Griffins and it took them just 14 seconds to take the lead.  Fagan won the draw control and hit Kania who scored the game winning goal with 6:56 to play.

SHU won the next draw and hit the post on a shot giving the ball back to the Knights.  Gannon gave it right back with a failed clear.  SHU then turned it over and Meghan Hollar made one of her 11 saves with four minutes left to preserve the one goal lead.  The Knights turned the ball over on their next two possessions and the Griffins were able to run out the final two and a half minutes to earn the win.

Alessandra Nicholas led the Griffins with 4 goals.  Renee Kania added 3 goals and 2 assists.  Savannah Monroe also finished the game with 3 goals.  Mackenzie Kilduff added 2 goals.  Meghan Hollar finished with 11 saves in net.

SHU will look to make it four in a row when they host Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon.
