Seton Hill traveled north to Erie for a PSAC West doubleheader at Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon needing two wins to keep their PSAC playoff hopes alive. SHU completed the sweep to put them into a tie for second place in the PSAC West. The Griffins took game one by a 6-2 score and won game two by a 3-2 score in 8 innings. SHU is now 16-24 overall and 9-9 in PSAC West action.
Seton Hill and Gannon are tied for second place in the west with 9-9 records. Slippery Rock is 8-10 in fourth place. The top three teams qualify for the PSAC Tournament. Gannon travels to Slippery Rock tomorrow for their final doubleheader.
The Griffins took a 2-0 lead in game one. After an out,
Caitlin Tobin doubled. She scored on an
Ashley Perillo single. Perillo then scored on an
Abbey Suhoski base hit. The Lakers tied the score at two with single runs in the first and second innings. SHU retook the lead in the third inning.
Monica Joseph walked and advanced to second on a passed ball. Three straight singles by Perillo, Suhoski and
Carlee Wickstrom gave SHU a 3-2 lead.
Paige Hertzog led off the fourth with a single. She moved to second on an error.
Jacqui Palmer and Joseph singled to load the bases. Tobin walked to force in a run and Perillo hit a sacrifice fly to give SHU a 5-2 lead. Perillo made it 6-2 with a solo homer in the seventh.
Kaitlyn Kutchman earned her 10th win of the season. She went the distance, giving up 5 hits and striking out three. Perillo was 3-3 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Suhoski and Hertzog each had 2 hits.
Three straight singles from Tobin, Perillo and Suhoski loaded the bases in the first inning. Wickstrom then flew out to center field driving in Tobin. The Lakers hit a solo homer in the fifth to tie the score at one. The game remained tied at one until the eighth inning.
Joseph led off the eighth with a single and moved to second on an error. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Tobin. After another out, Perillo drove in Joseph with a single. Suhoski scored when
Victoria Stock reached on an error. The Lakers hit a solo homer in the eighth but it was not enough.
Kutchman earned her second win of the day with another complete game win. She gave up five hits and struck out 2. Suhoski added 3 hits. Perillo and Wickstrom each had 2 hits.
SHU closes out the regular season with a doubleheader at California (PA) on Saturday.
