The Griffins continued their PSAC Western division homestand with a doubleheader against Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers shutout the Griffins in game one by the score of 1-0. Mercyhurst completed the sweep with a 6-5 win in game two. SHU falls to 12-18 overall and 5-3 in PSAC West play.
Seton Hill threatened in the third inning after
Kaitlyn Kutchman led off the inning with a walk.
Paige Hertzog singled after two outs and both moved up on a passed ball but a groundout ended the SHU threat.
Monica Joseph singled with an out in the fourth but a double play ended the inning. After two outs in the fifth,
Caitlin Tobin walked and Joseph singled, but a lineout ended the inning. The Lakers finally got on the board in the sixth with a double and an RBI single.
Monica Joseph was the lone Griffin with two hits.
Kaitlyn Kutchman suffered the loss, giving up the one run on just four hits.
Mercyhurst took advantage of a passed ball and took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two. SHU took the lead in the second.
Victoria Stock drew a walk and scored when
Michaela LeDonne homered over the left center field wall. The Lakers took a 6-2 lead in the fourth when they scored 5 runs on 4 hits. SHU got one run back in the fifth on an RBI groundout from
Tiffany Edwards that scored Hertzog who singled.
Joseph reached on an error to lead off the seventh.
Abbey Suhoski followed with a two run homer to cut the lead to 6-5. Kutchman reached on an error but a fly out and ground out ended the game.
Suhoski finished the game 2-4 with the 2 RBI.
SHU returns to action next Friday when they host California (PA).
