SHU Falls to #7 West Chester 12-10 on Senior Day

Seton Hill honored its four fifth year seniors before their contest with #7 West Chester on Saturday afternoon.  Seniors Emily Fagan, Renee Kania, Nicole Rossi and Alessandra Nicholas were honored in a pregame ceremony.  SHU scored the first two goals but West Chester answered with five straight in route to a 12-10 victory over the Griffins.  SHU drops to 6-9 overall and 5-5 in PSAC action.

The Griffins came out of the gate flying as Emily Fagan won the opening draw control, flew down the field and found the back of the net nine minutes into the contest.  Alexis Petrarca then won the next draw, found Charlotte Cunningham who hit Alessandra Nicholas who gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead just 32 seconds into the contest.  West Chester responded and tied the score at two with 25:52 left in the half.  The Rams then scored three goals in less than two minutes to take a 5-2 lead with 22:07 left in the half.

Petrarca ended the Rams run with a goal from Cunningham that cut the lead to 5-3.  WCU answered back with two goals and took a 7-3 lead with 18:34 to play.  Katelyn Cressman scored on a free position shot to trim the lead to 7-4.  Tristen Hanke finished a pass from Savannah Monroe to cut the lead to 7-5 with just under five minutes left in the half.  West Chester got a goal with 24 seconds left before the half to take an 8-5 halftime lead.

Four minutes into the second half, Nicholas cut into the lead with her second of the game off a feed from Cressman.  West Chester scored the next four goals of the half to push their lead to 12-6 with just over 15 minutes left.  Hanke found the back of the net at the 7:21 mark of the half.  Two minutes later Monroe cut the lead to 12-8.  One minute later, Nicholas scored on a free position shot that cut the Rams lead to 12-9.  Nicholas closed out the scoring with her fourth of the game with 1:21 to play but West Chester was able to win the next draw and run out the clock.

Nicholas led the Griffins with 4 goals.  Hanke added 2 goals.  Cressman and Monroe each scored a goal and added an assist.  Cunningham finished with 2 assists.  Meghan Hollar recorded 9 saves.

SHU will return to action next weekend when they travel to Kutztown.
