Seton Hill closed out its home portion of the schedule with a PSAC West doubleheader against Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins were looking to help their PSAC Tournament chances with a pair of wins. The tournament chances took a big hit as the Rock was able to sweep a pair of games from the Griffins. The Rock took game one 4-0 and won game two by a 5-4 score in 8 innings. SHU has now lost eight in a row and falls to 12-24 overall and 5-9 in PSAC West play.
Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in game one until the top of the fourth inning. The Rock led the fourth inning off with a home run to take a 1-0 lead. Slippery Rock increased their lead to 3-0 in the fifth, scoring on an error and an RBI single. SRU used a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 4-0.
Abbey Suhoski and
Victoria Stock both singled in the seventh, putting runners on second and third but a groundout ended the game. Stock led the Griffins with 3 hits in game one.
Seton Hill cracked the scoreboard first in game two.
Danelle Locke led off the inning with a walk. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Monica Joseph.
Caitlin Tobin singled to move Locke to third and Locke scored when Stock reached on a fielders choice. The Rock tied the score in the top of the fifth with an unearned run. Neither team would score again until the eighth inning. Slippery Rock took advantage of three Griffin errors in the eighth inning to score four runs to take a 5-1 lead. Stock and Suhoski singled with one out in the eighth.
Shannon Horan ran for Suhoski and both moved up on a passed ball.
Carlee Wickstrom walked to load the bases.
Ashley Perillo drove in Stock with a sacrifice fly and
Jacqui Palmer knocked in two with a single to cut the lead to 5-4. A flyout ended the game.
Caitlin Tobin and
Victoria Stock each had two hits in the win.
SHU will continue PSAC West play this Tuesday when they travel to Edinboro.
