Seton Hill returned to action after a six day break with a PSAC West doubleheader at Clarion on Friday afternoon. The Griffin bats did not look like they skipped a beat as the swept the Golden Eagles by scores of 14-3 and 9-1. SHU improves to 28-10 overall and 13-5 in PSAC West play. SHU is currently tied for second place with Cal, one game behind Mercyhurst.
The Griffins struck for 6 runs in the second inning of game one.
Garret Vrbanic led off the inning with a single and moved to second when
Tom McCarthy was hit by a pitch.
Adam Ferita walked to load the bases.
Anthony Fanelli reached on an error with Vrbanic scoring.
Zac Heide then cleared the bases with a 3 RBI double. Heide scored on a passed ball and Vrbanic capped off the inning with an RBI single.
SHU added a run in the third inning.
Evan Myers led off the inning with a triple and scored on a ground out by Ferita. The Griffins increased their lead to 11-0 in the fourth. McCarthy singled in Vrbanic who led off the inning with a double. Heide then followed with his second bases clearing double of the game, giving SHU the 11-0 lead. McCarthy and Fanelli each picked up RBIs in the fifth inning. Clarion scored twice in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 13-2. McCarthy drove in the final SHU run of the game in the sixth.
Perry DellaValle improved to 6-0 on the season with the win. He went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs while striking out 7.
Zac Heide was 4-4 with 2 doubles and 6 runs batted in.

Tom McCarthy each added 3 hits. McCarthy drove in 3 runs.
Matt Malacane and
Evan Myers each finished with 2 hits.
Seton Hill jumped on Clarion for 5 runs in the second inning of game two.
Matt Malacane led off with a double. He moved to third on a
Chris Miller single and scored when Ferita singled. McCarthy walked to load the bases and
Mark Colella doubled to clear the bases. Vrbanic closed out the scoring in the inning with an RBI double. Clarion got a run back in the bottom of the second inning.
Thayne Mitrik drove in two runs in the fifth to give SHU a 7-1 lead. SHU closed out the scoring in game two with RBIs from Miller and Ferita in the seventh.
Mike Bittel improved to 5-2 with the complete game win. He scattered 9 hits and struck out 7 while walking none.
Chris Miller led SHU with 3 hits.
Anthony Fanelli and
Adam Ferita each had two hits.
SHU will conclude the four game set with Clarion with a home doubleheader on Saturday afternoon where they will honor the 10th anniversary of their NAIA World Series team.
