Griffins Split PSAC West Doubleheader at Slippery Rock

Seton Hill closed out its opening PSAC West weekend with a pair of games at Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.  The Griffins used the arm of Kaitlyn Kutchman for a 7-1 victory in game one.  Slippery Rock earned the split with a 1-0 win in game two.  SHU is now 10-14 overall and 3-1 on PSAC West action.

Slippery Rock manufactured a run in the bottom of the first of game one.  They used a double, sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.  The Griffins tied the game at one the next inning.  Ashley Perillo led off the second with a double and scored on an error on a sacrifice bunt from Victoria Stock.  SHU took the lead for good in the third inning.  Monica Joseph singled to lead off the inning and was forced out on a Carlee Wickstrom groundout.  Abbey Suhoski followed with an RBI double to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead.

Seton Hill put the game away with four runs in the fifth.  Joseph led off the inning with a single.  She moved to second when Wickstrom reached on an error.  Suhoski then drove both of them in with a single to right.  Perillo followed with a homer to left to increase the lead to 5-1.  Michaela LeDonne drove in the final run of the inning with a single.  Kaitlyn Kutchman drove in Joseph in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 7-1.

Kutchman earned her sixth win of the season with a complete game effort.  She gave up just 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 5 while walking none.  Monica Joseph led the offense with 2 hits.  Abbey Suhoski, Ashley Perillo, Victoria Stock and Michaela LeDonne each had two hits.

Game two was a different story for the Griffins as they could not push a run across the plate.  The Griffins had single hits in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th innings.  Slippery Rock scored their lone run of the game in the fifth.  They used back to back singles and a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.  SHU threatened in the seventh inning.  After a strikout to start the inning, Perillo and Stock singled to put runners on first and second.  A strikeout and a groundout ended the SHU threat.

Carlee Wickstrom and Ashley Perillo each had two hits for the Griffins

SHU will return to the field on Tuesday afternoon when they host Indiana in a non conference matchup.
