SHU Sweeps Edinboro in PSAC West Opener

The Griffins opened PSAC West play on Friday afternoon as they hosted Edinboro in a game that was supposed to be played in Edinboro but moved to Greensburg because of the weather.  SHU rallied from 3-0 down to win game one 5-3.  Seton Hill completed the sweep with a 7-5 win in game two.  SHU improves to 9-13 overall and 2-0 in PSAC West action.
 
Edinboro scored three runs on just one in the top of the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead on the Griffins.  SHU responded with two runs in their half of the first.  Monica Joseph and Carlee Wickstrom each reached on an error.  Abbey Suhoski singled to load the bases.  After a fielder's choice got Joseph at the plate, all three runners moved up on a wild pitch with Wickstrom scoring.  Suhoski scored when Victoria Stock reached on an error to trim the lead to 3-2. 
 
The Griffins took the lead in the bottom of the fifth.  Joseph singled and stole second base.  Suhoski singled to drive in Joseph and tie the score at three.  Stock followed with an RBI single scoring pinch runner Brooke BowerPaige Hertzog increased the lead to 5-3 with an RBI single. 
 
Kaitlyn Kutchman earns the win with a complete game, two hitter. She gave up 0 earned runs while striking out 9. Monica Joseph, Abbey Suhoski and Paige Hertzog each had two hits.
 
Game two remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning.  After an out, Stock doubled to left.  She scored when Jacqui Palmer singled down the left field line.  The Griffins added four more runs in the fifth.  Wickstrom led off the inning with a walk and stole second.  She scored when Suhoski singled thru the left side.  Stock then singled in pinch runner Bower to increase the lead to 3-0.  SHU scored their fourth run when Hertzog singled and Perillo scored on an error.  The fifth run scored on a Palmer sacrifice fly. 
 
Edinboro got three runs back in the top of the sixth on two home runs to cut the lead to 5-3.  The Griffins answered right back with two runs of its own.  Joseph singled to lead off the sixth and scored when Wickstrom homered to left field to push the SHU lead to 7-3.  The first three Scots reached base in the seventh with the third hitter being gunned down at third for the first out trying to stretch a double into triple.  The next hitter popped up for the second out of the inning with the Scots down 7-5.  Two singles and a walk loaded the bases but Kutchman got the final out of the game on a strikeout looking. 
 
Hayley Morgan earned the win in the circle.  She worked 5.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits .  Kaitlyn Kutchman earned her third save working the final 1.2 innings.  Abbey Suhoski and Victoria Stock each had two hits.
 
Seton Hill continues PSAC West play on Saturday with a doubleheader at Slippery Rock.
