Rally Comes Up Short in Loss to #8 Limestone

Seton Hill concluded its spring break trip in the Carolinas with a matchup with #8 Limestone on Wednesday afternoon.  SHU was down 5-1 and rallied to trim the Saints lead to 6-5 but gave up three straight goals falling by a 9-7 score.  The Griffins fall to 1-2 overall while Limestone improves to 3-0 on the season.

Limestone scored the first two goals of the game, taking a 2-0 lead ten minutes into the contest.  Emily Fagan cut the lead to 2-1 with an unassisted goal at the 19:06 mark of the first half.  That would be the only goal the Griffins would score in the half.  The Saints scored the final two goals of the half to take a 4-1 lead into the halftime break.  SHU held a 5-1 advantage in draw controls in the first half but could not beat the Saints keeper as she recorded 6 saves in the first half of action.

The Saints increased their lead to 5-1 just 36 seconds into the second half.  The Griffins responded with three goals in a one minute thirty seven second span to cut the Saints lead to 5-4 with 26:55 left in the second half.  Katelyn Cressman scored the first goal of the run on a free position shot.  SHU scored the second goal of the run 29 seconds later.  Fagan won the draw control and went to the cage, scoring her second goal of the game.  Just over a minute later, Fagan found Mackenzie Kilduff who deposited the ball in the back of the cage to make it a one goal game.  With just under 20 minutes to play in the half, the Saints increased theie lead to 6-4.  Fagan then found Kilduff for her second goal of the game to trim the lead back to one at 6-5 with 15:37 left in the half.

SHU won the draw control but Saints keeper Sydney Teeter made one of her 12 saves of the game.  Limestone scored on a free position shot on their next possession to increase the lead to 7-5.  Teeter made three more saves and the Saints added two more goals to push their lead to 9-5 with 4:28 to play.  The Saints were able to work the clock down to two minutes before a turnover led to a goal from Alessandra Nicholas with 1:54 to play in the half.  Tristen Hanke assisted on the goal.  Nicholas won the next draw control and found Alexis Petrarca who scored on a free position shot that cut the SHU defecit to 9-7 with 1:20 to play.  Petrarca won the draw control but the Griffins shot went wide and a turnover by the Griffins gave the ball back to the Saints who were able to run out the clock.

SHU held a 25-22 advantage in shots in the contest and won the draw control battle 13-5.

Emily Fagan led the Griffins with 2 goals and 2 assists.  Mackenzie Kilduff also scored twice.  Meghan Hollar recorded 8 saves in net.

SHU will return to action on Friday, March 11th when they host #3 Lindenwood at 4 PM.
