Taylor's Last Second Free-Throws Lift SHU Past Slippery Rock

GREENSBURG, PA - The Seton Hill University men's basketball team picked up a crucial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference win on Saturday when they defeated Slippery Rock, 53-51, inside the McKenna Center on the campus of Seton Hill University.

Seton HIll improves to 9-12 overall and 7-10 in PSAC play. Slippery Rock falls to 12-11 overall and 7-10 in the PSAC.

Seton Hill led by as many as nine (9) points, 33-24, with 17:58 remaining in the second half. However, that lead slowly dwindled over the next 9:37 until Slippery Rock grabbed a 44-43 lead with 8:21 to go in the game. Spencer Casson put SHU ahead on the next possession, but back-to-back buckets by Slippery Rock put the visitors back on top. After Kameron Taylor hit two free-throws to pull to within one, 48-47, with 5:10 on the clock,  both teams went on a scoring drought that lasted until Taylor hit a jumper with 1:21 remaining.

After another jumper by Taylor put Seton Hill ahead, 51-48, Slippery Rock's Jamal Gatali hit a three to tie it up, 51-51, with just 27 seconds left in the game. After a Griffin timeout, Taylor looked to take a last-second shot but was tripped while driving to the hole. The senior from Landover, MD hit both free-throws and a last-second shot by Slippery Rock's Chaquille Pratt fell harmlessly to the hardwood.

Kameron Taylor led Seton Hill with 27 points on 8-of-13 from the field and 11-of-14 from the line while grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds. Taylor has scored in double-figures in 20 of the 21 games played this season and has scored at least 20 points in three of his last four outings.  Noah Davis finished with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including 1-of-2 from both the three-point line and the free-throw line. Davis has scored at least 10 points in his last two games.

Cornelius Brown paced Slippery Rock with 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting. Brown also led the team in rebounds with 11. Malcolm Richardson had 10 poitns on 5-of-13 from the floor, and Chaquille Pratt pulled down 10 rebounds for The Rock.

Seton Hill turned 17 Rock turnovers into 16 points. Slippery Rock held a 30-24 advantage in points in the paint and had 18 second-chance points compared to just two for SHU. Seton Hill's 53 points was the lowest scoring output resulting in a win this season. The previous low was when the Griffin's defeated Gannon University in a 69-62 win on January 16th of this year.
