Seton Hill opened their spring break trip to the Carolina's with a matchup with #15 Queens (NC) in Charlotte on Monday afternoon. The Griffins got five goals from
Emily Fagan but it was not enough to rally from a 12-6 defecit as the Griffins dropped a 13-11 decision. SHU drops to 1-1 on the season while the Royals improve to 2-0.
Queens scored the opening goal of the contest 55 seconds into the game. SHU responded with three straight goals over a seven minute stretch to take a 3-1 lead.
Emily Fagan scored her first goal of the contest from
Renee Kania to tie the score at one.
Mackenzie Kilduff scored from Kania to give SHU a 2-1 lead. Fagan scored her second goal of the game to give SHU a 3-1 lead with 21:17 left in the half. The Royals scored the next two goal to tie the score at three with 18:09 left in the half.
Alexis Petrarca gave the Griffins their final lead of the game at 4-3. Queens scored the next two goals to take a 5-4 lead. Fagan's third goal tied the score at five with just over eight minutes left in the half. Queens responded with five straight goals to close out the half and took a 10-5 lead into the halftime break.
Kania scored the first goal of the half from
Katelyn Cressman two minutes into the second half and cut the Queens lead to 10-6. Queens then scored two straight goals to build their lead to 12-6 with 25:32 left in the half. SHU cut the lead to 12-9 with three goals in a three minute stretch.
Alessandra Nicholas scored the first on a free position shot and Fagan scored the next two to trim the lead to 12-9 with just over 20 minutes left in the half. Queens got a goal back to push their lead to 13-9.
Nellie Phillips scored from Kania and
Tristen Hanke scored from Fagan to trim the lead to 13-11 with just under 14 minutes to play in the half. The Griffins had four more shots over the game's final 14 minutes but could not find the back of the cage.
Queens held a 25-20 advantage in shots. The Royals also held a 20-9 advantage in ground balls. SHU held a 15-10 advantage in draw controls.
Emily Fagan led the Griffins with 5 goals and an assist.
Renee Kania added a goal and 5 assists.
Charlotte Cunningham finished with 2 assists.
Meghan Hollar recorded 9 saves in net.
SHU will continue their trip across the Carolina's when they take on #8 Limestone on Wednesday.
