Women's Lacrosse Rallies for Season Opening Victory

Seton Hill opened the 2016 season by hosting Tiffin University on Sunday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.  SHU trailed by scores of 4-0 and 7-4 before rallying and scoring six of the last eight goals of the game to open the season with 10-9 come from behind victory.  Head coach Courtney Grove discusses the win here. Tiffin jumped all over the Griffins, scoring the game's first four goals and held a 4-0 lead just under eight minutes into the contest.  SHU finally got on the scoreboard at the 16:33 mark when Renee Kania found Emily Fagan in front of the net for Fagan's first goal of the contest.  Nellie Phillips then followed Fagan's goal with a free position goal at the 14:28 mark of the first half to trim the lead to 4-2.  Tiffin then scored the next two goals of the contest to take a 6-2 lead with 4:53 to play in the half.  Alexis Petrarca trimmed the lead to 6-3 with a goal with 1:43 to play in the half.  Charlotte Cunningham assisted on the goal.  Cunningham was credited with a goal with five seconds to play in the half as the Tiffin goalie put the ball into her own net and SHU trailed 6-4 at the half. 

Two minutes into the second half, the Dragons extended their lead to 7-4.  SHU would then run off three straight goals to tie the score at seven.  Kania scored an unassisted goal 4:32 into the second half to cut the lead to 7-5.  Kania then found Fagan for two goals in 29 seconds to tie the score at seven with 21:19 left in the half.  Less than two minutes later, Tiffin took their final lead of the game at 8-7.  Olivia Canby then tied the score at eight with a free position shot goal with just over 11 minutes left in the half.  Savannah Monroe gave the Griffins their first lead of the game with an unassisted goal with 6:29 to play in the contest.  Fagan followed with her fourth of the game to extend the SHU lead to 10-8 with 4:13 to play.  Tiffin trimmed the lead to 10-9 with a goal with 1:02 to play in the contest.  Nicole Nath got the ensuing draw control and the Griffins were able to run out the clock.

Emily Fagan led the offense with 4 goals.  She also added 4 draw controls.  Renee Kania finished the contest with a goal and 3 assists.  Charlotte Cunningham added a goal and assist.  Eden Olson led the Griffins with 6 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers.  Meghan Hollar recorded 9 saves in net in the win.

SHU will head south to take on Queens (NC) and Limestone on February 29th and March 2nd.
