Game Recap: Baseball |

Squandered Opportunities Costly in 6-4 Loss to IUP

Seton Hill continued play in Williamston, NC against a familiar foe in PSAC West opponent Indiana (PA) in a game that counts as a non conference game.  SHU left twelve runners on base and squandered opportunities by striking out 15 times in a 6-4 loss.  SHU falls to 1-1 on the season.

IUP got on the board first with a single run in the top of the third inning.  The Crimson Hawks got a two out RBI double to score their run.  IUP added three more unearned runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 4-0.  The Crimson Hawks added another run in the top of the sixth to push their lead to 5-0.

The Griffins got back in the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh but left the bases loaded with the opportunity to score more.  Pinch hitter Ryan Wardropper drew a leadoff walk.  He moved to second when Phillip Pisarcik reached on an error.  Tyler Sullivan then drove in Wardropper with a single.  Garret Vrbanic beat out an infield single and picked up an RBI.  Matt Malacane then produced a sacrifice fly to trim the lead to 5-3.  SHU loaded the bases with two outs but a strikeout ended the threat.

The Crimson Hawks got one of the runs back with a leadoff homer in the top of the eighth.  SHU got the tying run to the plate in the ninth but could not tie the score.  Anthony Fanelli led off with a double and scored on a Chris Miller single.  Miller got to second base but a bunt and two fly outs ended the game.

Tyler Sullivan led the Griffins with 3 hits.

SHU will return to action on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM against Millersville.
