Seton Hill hosted Gannon University on Wednesday evening looking to complete the season sweep of the Knights. The Griffins got off to a great start, holding a 23-19 advantage after one quarter but only scored 21 points the rest of the contest in falling by a 62-44 score. SHU drops to 13-11 overall and 9-9 in PSAC play while Gannon improves to 16-7 overall and 14-5 in PSAC play.
Jenna Kaufman gave SHU a 2-0 lead one minute into the contest. After Gannon tied the score at two, the Griffins hit three three pointers to take a 11-6 lead.
Mariah Wells hit the first three and
Lindsey Mifsud hit the next two. A layup from
Alexandra Hay gave SHU its largest lead of the game at 13-6 with 4:09 to play. Hay drilled another three and
Halie Torris followed with a three of her own to increase the SHU lead to 21-15 with just over a minute to play in the quarter. SHU held a 23-19 advantage after the first quarter of play.
The second quarter was very low scoring as the teams combined for only 15 points in the quarter. Gannon battled back to tie the score at 25 with 4:04 to play in the half. Wells then put the Griffins back in front with a three pointer. After Gannon hit one of two free throws, Mifsud scored to give SHU a 30-26 lead with 1:27 to play. Gannon hit one more free throw as SHU led 30-27 at the half.
The Griffins held the lead in the third quarter until Gannon took a 35-34 lead with 4:29 to play in the third quarter on a free throw.
Chrisanna Green tied the score with a free throw before Gannon built their lead up to six points at 43-37. Torris hit a three pointer late in the quarter to cut the Gannon lead to 43-40 after three quarters of play.
The fourth quarter was all Gannon as they outscored the Griffins by a 19-4 margin. Green had the Griffins only field goal in the quarter.
SHU shot just 30% for the contest including 20% in the second half. The Griffins were outrebounded by a 44-30 margin. SHU did force 20 Gannon turnovers.
Mariah Wells was the lone Griffin in double figures with 12 points.
Lindsey Mifsud finished the game with 9 points.
Halie Torris added 6 points off the bench.
SHU returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host first place California at 1 PM. It will be senior day for the Griffins.
