SHU Drops Senior Day Contest with Cal (PA)

Seton Hill hosted first place California (PA) on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day in the McKenna Center, looking to sweep the season series from the Vulcans.  California jumped out to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back for a 76-46 victory.  SHU drops to 13-12 overall and 9-10 in PSAC play while the first place Vulcans improve to 18-5 overall and 15-4 in PSAC play.

California opened the game scoring 14 of the first 16 points of the contest to take a 14-2 lead midway through the first quarter.  Lindsey Mifsud hit a three before the Vulcans ran off six more points to take a 20-5 lead with three minutes to play in the quarter.  Chrisanna Green and Kinross Obiefule each scored buckets before the end of the quarter as the Griffins trailed 22-9 after one quarter of play.

The Vulcans built their lead to 35-15 with 2:51 to play in the half.  SHU then went on a 6-0 run to close out the half on buckets from Jenna Kaufman and Obiefule and two Kaufman free throws.  SHU trailed 35-21 at the half.

Back to back baskets from Hannah Laslo cut the Vulcans lead to 42-25 with 7:37 to play in the third quarter.  Cal then built their lead back up to 51-27 with 4:24 to play.  The Griffins trailed 57-34 after three quarters of play.

The Griffins got as close as 22 points in the fourth quarter on a three pointer from Alexandra Hay and a basket from Kaufman.  That was as close as the Griffins would get as they dropped the 76-46 decision.

Jenna Kaufman was the lone Griffin in double figures with 13 points.  Halie Torris just missed double figures with 9 points.  Kinross Obiefule finished the game with 8 points.

SHU will head to Mercyhurst on Wednesday for a key PSAC contest.  SHU is one game behind the Lakers for fifth place in the PSAC West.
