GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Seton Hill University men's basketball team fell at home to Shippensburg University, 76-69, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon inside the McKenna Center.
The loss halts SHU's win streak to three and drops their overall record to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC. Shippensburg improves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
After Shippensburg built a nine-point lead, 22-13, with 10:08 showing in the first half, Seton Hill would go on a 13-2 run over the next five minutes to get back into the game.
Nathan Davis started the run with a jumper, and
Brandon Alston's three after a Raider missed shot got the lead down to four, 22-18. After a turnover and a few missed shots, Nathan scored back-to-back buckets off of turnovers to tie the game at 22 with 6:09 on the clock. After the teams traded layups,
Noah Davis got in the action, hitting on two free-throw attempts to give SHU their first lead since early in the half, 26-24, with 5:21 remaining. The teams would go back-and-forth for the remainder of the half with SHU clinging to a 36-35 lead going into halftime.
At the start of the second-half, Shippensburg would regain the lead just one minute into play. The Raiders would hold the lead throughout, eventually pushing to 16, 74-58, with 4:01 to go. Seton Hill would make a run of it, outscoring Shippensburg, 11-2 down the stretch. However, time was not on the side of SHU as the Raiders hung on for the 76-69 win.
Noah Davis led the offensive effort for the Griffins, scoring 24 points on 7-of-15 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the line. Noah led the team in rebounds with seven. Freshman
Nathan Davis scored 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 3-of-6 from long-range.
Trevor Lecuona dished out a game-high five assists.
For the game, Seton Hill was 27-for-64 (42.2%) from the field, including 6-of-17 (35.3%) from distance. SHU shot 9-for-14 (64.3%) from the line. Shippensburg made 23-of-57 (40.4%) shots and the team was 9-for-22 from three-point range. The Raiders were 21-for-25 (84.0%) from the charity stripe.
Seton Hill returns to action when they welcome Kutztown University to campus on December 10th for the final game before the Christmas break. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
