GREENSBURG, Pa. - Seton Hill University fell to Kutztown University, 72-62, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon inside the McKenna Center.
With the loss, Seton Hill falls to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC. Kutztown improves to 7-1 on the season and 4-1 PSAC play.Â
Seton Hill led by as many as 11 points (16-5) in the first half. Kutztown would battle back in the game, tying the game on two separate occasions, before Seton Hill pushed the lead to nine, 42-33, on a last-second dunk by
Fernando Salsamendi. However, the momentum swung quickly in favor of Kutztown in the second half as the Golden Bears would outscore Seton Hill, 13-3, over the first six minutes of the half to take the lead, 46-45, with 13:59 showing on the clock. Kutztown would carry the momentum throughout the remainder of the half, keeping the Griffins off-kilter on their way to the 72-62 win.
Noah Davis led the effort for Seton Hill with 15 points on 6-of-12 from the floor and 3-for-7 from three-point range. Davis also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Fernando Salsamendi also scored 15 points in the game. Salsamendi hit on seven of his 11 shots from the floor.
Spencer Casson scored 11 points on a 5-of-9 performance to round out the double-digit scorers for Seton Hill.Â
As a team, Seton Hill was 27-for-57 (47.4%) from the floor, including 7-of-18 (38.9%) from three and just 1-for-2 (50.0%) from the free-throw line. The team was 6-of-10 from long-distance in the first half, but only made 1-of-8 in the second half.
Anthony Lee led four Kutztown players in double figures with 16 points. Ryan Connolly had 13, Josh Johnson had 11, and Ethan Ridgeway had 10 in the win. Ridgeway dished a game-high eight assists. Kutztown made 28-of-73 (38.4%) shots, including 8-of-24 (33.3%) from three-point range. The Golden bears were 8-for-12 from the foul line.
Kutztown scored 13 second chance points compared to nine for SHU. The Golden Bears outscored SHU, 40-36, in the paint, and 10-8 in fast break points. The Griffin bench outscored their Kutztown counterparts, 25-13.
Seton Hill will take to the hardwood again on December 30th when they take on Slippery Rock University in PSAC play. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 tip.
