Men's Hoops Comes Up Short To Slippery Rock, 72-64

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Seton Hill University men's basketball team fell to Slippery Rock, 72-64, in their final game of the 2016 portion of the season on Friday afternoon inside Salvitti Gymnasium on the campus of Seton Hill University.

With the loss, SHU falls to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in PSAC play. The Griffins have lost three in a row. Slippery Rock, now riding a five-game winning steak, improves to 9-4 on the year and 5-2 in conference action. 

Seton Hill started off strong, building a 10-6 lead at the 13:00 mark of the first half. However, The Rock would go on a 13-1 run over the next six minutes to lead, 19-11, with 7:05 remaining in the half. The two teams would go back-and-forth with SHU getting to within four on multi occasions before Noah Davis' three before the buzzer made it a three-point game, 30-27. In the second half, Seton Hill would pull to within just a single point five times, only to see Slippery Rock pull away time and time again before eventually breaking through to a double-digit lead, 71-61, with just 23 seconds remaining. 

Noah Davis finished with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 3-of-6 from the three. Nathan Davis was the only other Griffin in double-figures with 17 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 3-of-5 from three-point range. Fernando Salsamendi and Tyler Bowling grabbed six rebounds apiece for Seton Hill. Trevor Lecuona dished six assists.

Khyree Wooten had 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting for Slippery Rock. Naquil Jones had 20 points on 8-of-15 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from long-range. Christal Malalu grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. As a team, Slippery Rock was 32-for-63 (50.8%) from the floor, including 7-for-17 (41.2%) from long range and just 1-for-6 (16.7%) from the free-throw line. 

Seton Hill's bench outscored Slippery Rock's by a 29-15 margin. Slippery Rock out-rebounded SHU, 40-28, which led to a strong 17-2 advantage in second chance points. The Rock also held a decisive 46-24 lead in points in the paint. The two teams were even in the points off of turnovers category with 13 apiece. 

Seton Hill returns to the hardwood on January 3rd for a home contest against Edinboro University. Seton Hill would like to wish everyone a Happy, and Safe, New Year.
