Casson Shines Again In Win Over Millersville

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Spencer Casson had his fourth double-double of the season with 23 points and 16 rebounds and the Seton Hill University men's basketball team defeated Millersville University, 84-76, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cross-over action Saturday afternoon inside the McKenna Center at Seton Hill University.

The win improves SHU's record to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in PSAC play. Millersville University falls to 3-3 on the season, 2-1 in conference action.

The Griffins started off fast, building a 11-4 lead over the first six minutes of the game. However, Millersville would use a 13-5 run over the four minutes to grab the lead, 17-16, with 9:28 showing in the first period. A back-and-forth game, the two teams play even the rest of the half before SHU's Noah Davis' two free-throws and Spencer Casson's layup put the Griffins ahead by two, 40-38, before heading into the locker room.

The second half would see the two teams battle to gain any distance from the other. Down 52-51, Seton Hill's Anthony Karabotsos hit a three with 12:39 remaining to put SHU back on top, 54-52. After Millersville tied it up on two free-throws, Nathan Davis hit on a layup and Spencer Casson did the same after a Millersville turnover and Noah Davis scored another layup off of a fast break opportunity to give SHU a six-point lead, 60-54, with 9:36 remaining in the second half. After trading buckets, Noah Davis hit on a three and Karabotsos made a layup off the ensuing turnover to give SHU their largest lead of the night, 67-58. Millersville would whittle the lead down to two, 71-69, with 3:42 to-go, but the Griffins would take advantage of a confused Marauder defense to score uncontested layups and make 7-of-9 free-throws down the stretch en route to the 84-76 win.

Spencer Casson had a game-high 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 9-of-10 from the line. Casson also grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds and nearly missed a triple-double with eight blocks Noah Davis scored 21 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including 7-of-8 from the line and 2-of-5 from three. Anthony Karabotsos registered the first points in his young career, scoring 15 points on 6-for-9 from the floor. Davis and Karabotsos each dished out a team-leading four assists.

For the game, Seton Hill was 29-for-58 (50.0%) from the floor, including 4-for-18 (22.2%) from long-range and 22-for-27 (81.5%) from the charity stripe. SHU had 46 points in the paint, scored 12 points off of turnovers, 12 second change points, 18 from fast break opportunities, and received 23 points from their bench. Millersville was 23-for-63 (36.5%) total from the floor, 5-of-14 (35.7%) from three-point distance, and 25-for-34 (73.5%) from the line. The Marauders had 36 points in the paint, 13 points off of turnovers, eight points off of second chances, four from the fast break, and their bench contributed 21 points.

Neither team could build a double-digit lead in the game. Seton Hill's largest lead was nine, 67-58, with 7:08 remaining in the second. Millersville's largest lead came with 4:15 to go in the first half when the Marauders led by five, 32-28. 

Seton Hill returns to the hardwood on Sunday when they take on Shippensburg University in PSAC crossover play. That game is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
