GREENSBURG, Pa. - Reigning PSAC Player of the Week,
Noah Davis poured in 23 points while grabbing 10 rebounds, and
Spencer Casson had 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as Seton Hill University defeated Carlow University, 62-51, in non-conference men's basketball action inside of the McKenna Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Seton Hill improves to 4-2 overall. Carlow, a member of the NAIA's River States Conference, falls to 0-8 for the 2016-17 campaign.
A defensive game to start, PJ McLaughlin scored the game's first points with 15:18 showing on the clock. After a turnover by SHU, McLaughlin would give Carlow their largest lead of the game, 4-0. However, Seton Hill would go on a 7-2 run, culminating with a three from
Brandon Alston that gave SHU the lead, 7-6, with 12:17 to go in the first half. Carlow responded with a run of their own by outscoring Seton Hill 8-6 to regain the lead, 14-13, with 7:04 remaining. After trading multiple buckets, Seton Hill's
Noah Davis' three sparked a 17-12 run to end the half with Seton Hill leading, 30-24. A lead that they would eventually push to double-digits in the second half as they would cruise to the 62-51 victory.
Davis led SHU with a game-high 23 points on 7-of-12 from the floor, including 1-of-3 from deep and a perfect 8-8 from the line. Casson followed with 11 points on 5-of-9 from the floor to go along with his game-high 11 rebounds. Casson nearly missed a triple-double with eight blocks in the game.
Damjan Sredanovic had seven points,
Trevor Lecuona had six, and
Nathan Davis and
Manny Joshua added four apiece. The Griffins had 28 turnovers on the night. For the game, SHU was 22-of-52 (42.3%) from the floor, including 2-for-12 (16.7%) from long-range, and 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the charity stripe.
Carlow was led by PJ McLaughlin's 15 points on 7-for-14 shooting. Jacob St. George had 11 points, and Chance Wright added 10 to round out the double-digit scoring for the Celtics. Carlow was 22-for-71 (31.0%) from the floor, including 5-of-15 (33.3%) from three-point distance, and 2-of-4 (50%) from the line.
For the game, SHU's bench outscored Carlow, 31-16. SHU also led in points in the paint, 36-24, and fast break points, 14-2. Carlow scored 22 points off of turnovers compared to 13 for Seton Hill.
Seton Hill returns to action on Saturday, December 3rd when they take on Millersville University in their first PSAC game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
