Seton Hill opened its home portion of the schedule by hosting Lake Erie on Tuesday evening in the McKenna Center. Lake Erie led by as many as 16 points in the second half but the Griffins rallied and used a
Noah Davis jumper with 16 seconds to play for a 79-76 come from behind victory. SHU improves to 3-2 on the season while the Storm fall to 0-4.
The first seven minutes were played very closely with neither team leading by more than two points and there being four ties in the first seven minutes. SHU used a three pointer from
Noah Davis and a layin after a steal from
Trevor Lecuona to take a 19-16 lead with 9:59 left in the half. Lake Erie took a 24-22 lead before another Davis bucket tied the score at 24 with 7:56 to go. Lake Erie then went on an 11-0 run to push their lead to 35-24 with 5:20 to play in the half. A basket from
Manny Joshua ended the run but the Storm continued to add onto its lead and took a 43-30 lead into the halftime break.
The story in the half was 12 Griffin turnovers that led to 17 Storm points.
The Storm was able to build its lead to as many as 16 points three times in the second half, the last at 53-37 with 15:05 to play. The Griffins then began to cut into the lead and back to back three pointers from
Brandon Alston and
Noah Davis cut the lead to 58-51 with 12:10 to play. Another three pointer from Davis trimmed the Storm lead to 64-60 with 8:39 left. The Storm extended their lead to 70-63 with 6:44 to go. SHU would then outscore the Storm 16-6 down the stretch for the win. SHU used a 6-0 run on two buckets from
Tyler Bowling and two free throws from
Noah Davis that cut the lead to 70-69 with 4:14 left.
Lake Erie answered with a bucket but one free throw from Bowling and an old fashioned three point play from
Noah Davis gave SHU its first lead in a long time at 73-72 with 3:04 to play. LEC answered with a basket of their own to retake the lead 74-73 just 14 seconds later. SHU then got a basket from
Damjan Sredanovic with 2:20 to play to retake the lead. Lake Erie took their final lead at 76-75 with 1:50 to play. On their next possession, Bowling hit one of two to tie the score at 76 with 1:36 left. Both teams missed shots on their next possessions and LEC turned the ball over with 34 seconds left in the half. Lecuona then found
Noah Davis with a few seconds left on the shot clock and Davis drilled the game winner with 16 seconds left. Davis pulled down the rebound on next possession and then hit one of two free throws to extend the lead to 79-76 with 2.5 seconds left. A half court shot from the Storm was not close and SHU took home the come from behind win.
Noah Davis led SHU with 26 points, including 18 in the second half.
Spencer Casson finished with a double double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Brandon Alston also finished with 12 points.
Damjan Sredanovic and
Tyler Bowling each chipped in with 10.
Trevor Lecuona added 6 points and a game high 10 assists.
SHU will return to action next Tuesday evening when they host Carlow at 7:30 PM
