Griffins Sweep IUP, Punch Ticket To PSAC Tournament

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Cassie Hausfeld had a match-high 13 kills as Seton Hill University punched their ticket to the 2016 PSAC Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon at the McKenna Center.

The win improves SHU's record to 19-12 overall and 11-7 in the PSAC. IUP slips to 19-10 overall and 10-8 in PSAC play.

After cruising to a 25-14 win in the first set, Seton Hill found itself in a battle for the second and third sets. Trailing by three or more points on three different occasions, Seton Hill trailed 23-20 the all-important game 2. Kills by Hausfeld, Rachel Satira, and a setting error by IUP knotted the game up at 23. A service ace by Hausfeld followed by a service error again tied the game, this time at 24. However, a service error by IUP's Sara Vaughn followed by a block by Maggie Murray gave the Griffin's the 26-24 set two win. In the third set, Seton Hill would build a 16-11 lead only to see that lead dwindle to just 18-17. However, multiple attack errors by IUP and a kill by Jillian Livorse increased the lead to 24-18. The Crimson Hawks would keep the set close, scoring the next three points before another attack error gave SHU the win, 25-21.

For the match, Cassie Hausfeld led the offensive effort for Seton Hill with 13 kills on 39 attacks and only three errors. Rachel Satira had eight and Jillian Livorse had seven kills. Hausfeld and Leah Bisignani each had one ace apiece. Jenna Sassack had four blocks, while Maggie Murray and Hausfeld had three apiece. Murray led SHU with 17 assists. Mary Baich had a match-high 25 digs.

Seton Hill will now have to wait for the PSAC to announce the seeds for the tournament scheduled November 16-19th.
