SHU Eliminated from PSAC Tourney with 3-1 Loss to UPJ

Seton Hill opened PSAC Tournament action in the Sports Center on the campus of Pitt Johnstown on Tuesday evening.  The Griffins took the first set but UPJ rallied for the next three to knock the Griffins out of the PSAC Tournament by a 3-1 score.  SHU falls to 19-13 overall.

The Griffins took a 5-4 lead on a kill from Cassie Hausfeld early in the first set.  Hausfeld followed with another kill and an ace to give SHU an 8-5 lead.  A kill from Leah Bisignani extended the lead to 9-5, forcing UPJ to take a timeout.  SHU continued their run and led 12-6 after a Hannah Moeller kill.  UPJ cut the lead to 13-10 but two UPJ hitting errors extended the lead to 15-10.  Another ace from Hausfeld following another UPJ service error pushed the Griffins lead to 19-13.  UPJ ran off three straight to cut the SHU lead to 19-16, forcing a SHU timeout. Bisignani ended a UPJ run with a kill to give SHU the 21-19 advantage.  Jenna Sassack kept the lead at two (22-20) with a kill and Jillian Livorse followed with an ace to give SHU a 23-20 lead.  Hausfeld made it 24-20 with a kill.  Another UPJ service error gave the Griffins the first set, 25-21.
 
Serving was the difference in the first set as SHU had 4 aces to just one error.  UPJ had just 1 ace to 5 errors. 
 
UPJ took an early 6-2 lead in the second set.  The Cats built the lead up to a 10-4 advantage forcing the Griffins to take a timeout.  SHU battled back and got to within 14-11 midway thru the set.  Livorse's kill trimmed the lead to 16-14.  UPJ then ran off three straight forcing the Griffins to take their second timeout of the set.  A Bisignani kill and a block from Sassack and Livorse ended the run and cut the lead to 19-16.  UPJ evened the match at one with a 25-19 second set win. 
 
The Mountain Cats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third set.  A kill from Hausfeld cut the UPJ lead to 6-3.  UPJ extended their lead to 10-4 with SHU taking their first timeout of the set.  A block from Bisignani and Livorse ended a UPJ run and cut the lead to 14-5.  UPJ took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-10 win. 
 
Bisignani started off the fourth set with a kill. UPJ responded to take a 6-3 lead.  A block from Hausfeld and Sassack cut the UPJ lead to 9-6.  A solo block from Katie Wenson cut the UPJ lead to 14-10 midway thru the fourth set.  UPJ closed out the match with a 25-16 win.
 
Cassie Hausfeld and Leah Bisignani each finished the match with 8 kills.  Mary Baich finished with 18 digs. Jillian Livorse added 14 digs.
