Seton Hill hosted Slippery Rock as they opened up a weekend against PSAC Northwest Division opponents. The Griffins were able to sweep the visiting Rock in three sets. SHU improves to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in PSAC action while Slippery Rock drops to 8-10 overall and 1-4 in PSAC play.
The Griffins took the first set by a 25-15. SHU jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the set before the Rock battled back to tie the set at 7. SRU then went on a 4-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. The Griffins then ran off five straight points including two kills from
Jenna Sassack. The Griffins then used another 5-0 run to put the set away.
Cassie Hausfeld,
Katie Wenson and
Leah Bisignani each had kills during the run. Bisignani ended the set with a kill.
SHU jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead in the second set. SRU cut the lead to 17-14 but would get no closer as the Griffins took the second set by a 25-16 score.
Slippery Rock started off fast in the third set and led 16-12. SHU then ran off six straight points including two kills from
Jillian Livorse. A kill from Wenson and a block by Hausfeld and Wenson put SHU ahead 21-19. The Rock tied the set at 21 and 22 before two Rock attack errors and a block from Bisignani and Hausfeld ended the match.
Cassie Hausfeld and
Leah Bisignani each had 12 kills in the match.
Rachel Satira finished with 8.
Maggie Murray finished with 41 assists, 11 digs and 3 kills in her first match back.
Hannah Moeller added 22 digs while Hausfeld finished with 12. Hausfeld and Bisignani each finished with 3 blocks.
Seton Hill will continue play on Saturday at 1 PM when they host Edinboro.
