The Griffins headed to Slippery Rock for their final regular season road game on Tuesday afternoon looking to keep their playoff hopes alive. Their playoff hopes took a hit after a 47th minute goal gave Slippery Rock a 1-0 victory. The hopes were then dashed when IUP won their match later in the evening to knock the Griffins out of playoff contention. SHU drops to 7-7-2 overall and 6-7-2 in PSAC action. The Rock clinched a playoff spot and improved to 10-6-1 overall and 10-4-1 in PSAC play.
Neither team was able to score in the first half but Slippery Rock controlled most of the play and possession. The Rock held a 9-3 advantage in shots and a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks. Griffin keeper
Jessica Neill had 6 saves in the first half to keep the Rock off the scoreboard.
It did not take Slippery Rock long to score in the second half. The Rock scored off a free kick just 1:12 into the second half. A free kick was stopped by Neill but the rebound deflected off a Rock player into the Griffin net for a 1-0 Rock lead. SHU battled until the end and poured it on but just could not find the game tying goal.
The Griffins will close out the season on Saturday when they host West Chester at 1 PM on Senior Day.
