Seton Hill hit the road for a short trip to Slippery Rock for a PSAC contest on Wednesday afternoon. The Griffins surrendered a late goal to tie the score but scored the game winner just over seven minutes into the first overtime period for a 3-2 victory over the Rock. SHU improves to 9-6 overall and 6-3 in PSAC play, good for third place. The Rock falls to 3-9-2 overall and 2-5-2 in PSAC play.
SHU got on the scoreboard first just 2:15 into the first half.
Harry Beattie sent in a pass from the left side of the box and
Tom Urquhart finished the pass into an open net for a 1-0 lead. Seton Hill took that 1-0 lead into the halftime break. Slippery Rock held a 5-4 advantage in shots in the half with each team having two corner kicks.
Twenty minutes into the second half, the Rock tied the score at one after a failed clearance from the Griffins. Seton Hill retook the lead in the 77th minute. The Griffins took advantage of a free kick from
Joe Smith.
Harrison Howes got the ball at the top of the box and blasted a shot past the SRU keeper for a 2-1 SHU lead. Slippery Rock also lost their keeper on the play to a red card so had to play the rest of the match a man down. The Rock scored the tying goal with 3:22 to play in the half on a header off a free kick. SHU outshot the Rock 9-8 in the second half.
Slippery Rock had two shots on goal in the overtime period with
Austin Iddon making two saves to keep the game tied. SHU nearly won it off a header from Urquhart just over six minutes into the overtime period. The Griffins got the game winner just a minute later when
Curtis Gallagher finished a pass from Smith at the 7:02 mark of the overtime period.
Iddon recorded 6 saves in the win.
SHU returns home to take on Millersville on Saturday afternoon.
