Griffins Defeat Cal 72-60

The Griffins returned to PSAC West play with a road contest at California (PA) on Saturday afternoon.  SHU led for most of the contest and completed the sweep on the day with a 70-60 victory.  SHU improves to 6-8 overall and 4-6 in PSAC play.
 
Cal opened the game with a 10-5 run to take a 10-5 lead at the first media timeout of the game.  The Vulcans continued to hold the lead at the under 12 media timeout as they held an 18-13 advantage.  Trevor Blondin then went on a 6-0 run of his own to give the Griffins a 19-18 advantage midway through the half.  Manny Joshua's jumper from the free throw line increased the SHU lead to 23-21 with 7:47 left in the half. Joshua then completed a three point play to increase the Griffins lead to 31-27 at the under four media timeout.  Noah Davis then drilled a three that pushed the lead to 39-31 with just over a minute left in the half.  SHU took a 43-35 lead into the halftime break.
 
Taylor hit two free throws to extend the SHU lead to 49-37 with just over 17 minutes left in the half.  Cal was able to cut the lead to 51-49 before a steal and basket from Blondin pushed the lead back to 53-49 with just over 12 minutes to play in the half.  Back to back buckets from Blondin and Brandon Alston pushed the lead back to 57-52 forcing a Cal time out at the 10:23 mark.  SHU was able to extend the lead to 62-52 at the under eight media timeout.  Cal then cut the SHU lead to 66-60 with 3:11 left in the half.  Back to back buckets from Tyler Bowling extended the lead to ten at 70-60. 
 
Trevor Blondin led SHU with 18 points.  Kameron Taylor added 15 points.  Tyler Bowling tossed in 13 points and Spencer Casson finished with 12 points.
 
SHU returns to action on Wednesday when they host Mercyhurst.
