Seton Hill made the trip across the state to take on West Chester in a PSAC Crossover on Sunday afternoon. Eleven Griffins made their way to the scoring column but it was not nearly enough as the Griffins were defeated by the Golden Rams, 70-48. SHU falls back to .500 at 7-7 overall and 3-5 in PSAC action. WCU improves to 8-4 overall and 5-3 in PSAC play.
Seton Hill took their only lead of the game on the game's opening basket from
Jharrin Gill. West Chester then scored the next eight points to take an 8-2 lead. A basket from
Hannah Laslo and a three point play from
Lindsey Mifsud cut the WCU lead to 8-7 with 5:55 left in the quarter. WCU then went on a 13-2 run to take a 21-9 lead before
Jenna Kaufman scored at the buzzer to end the quarter with the Griffins trailing 21-11.
Alexandra Hay answered the opening basket of the quarter from the Rams with a jumper of her own at the 8:41 mark of the quarter. Both teams then went cold from the field as the Griffins did not score again until the 2:44 mark of the quarter when
Halie Torris hit a three pointer to cut the lead to 26-16. West Chester built their lead to 32-18 at the halftime break.
After Laslo scored the first two points of the second half, the teams got hot from three point land as the two teams exchanged three pointers with Mifsud hitting the Griffins three with SHU trailing 35-23. The Rams then went on a 12-2 run to extend their lead to 22 points with just over five minutes remaining in the quarter. Back to back baskets from
Kinross Obiefule ended the Rams run. SHU trailed 53-34 after three quarters of play.
The Griffins did not hit a field goal over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter with their only points being a free throw from Obiefule and found themselves down by a score of 63-35 with just over five minutes left in the game.
Kinross Obiefule led the Griffins with 9 points. She also added 8 rebounds.
Lindsey Mifsud and
Alexandria Deep each finished the game with 6 points.
Mariah Wells added 9 rebounds.
SHU will return home for a PSAC Crossover on Wednesday evening against Cheyney. Tip is set for 5:30 PM.
