Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Griffins Comeback Comes up Short in Home Loss

After being snowed out on Saturday afternoon, the women's basketball team returned to action on Sunday afternoon as they hosted Edinboro University in the McKenna Center.  SHU cut the lead to 57-54 late in the fourth quarter but were outscored 8-0 over the final 3:38 for a 65-54 loss to the Fighting Scots.  Seton Hill falls to 10-10 overall and 6-8 in PSAC play while Edinboro improves to 14-6 overall and 9-5 in PSAC play.

The Griffins gave up the first four points of the contest before Hannah Laslo got the Griffins on the board with a bucket.  Back to back baskets from Kinross Obiefule trimmed the Edinboro lead to 10-8 midway through the first period but the Scots outscored the Griffins 14-4 the rest of the quarter to take a 24-12 lead after one quarter of play.

Jenna Kaufman hit back to back baskets to open the second quarter and cut the Edinboro lead to 24-16.  That would be as close as the Griffins would get in the second quarter, which was low scoring with the Griffins outscoring the Scots 11-10.  Lindsey Mifsud's three pointer in the last minute of the half cut the halftime deficit to 34-23.

The Scots were able to extend their lead to 16 points after back to back three pointers forcing a Griffin timeout at the 6:54 mark of the quarter with SHU trailing 43-27.  The Griffins were able to battle back after trailing 48-34 with 4:35 to play.  SHU held the Scots without a field goal for the rest of the quarter.  A layin from Chrisanna Green and a jumper from Alexandria Hay trimmed the lead to 48-38.  Jharrin Gill followed with back to back jumpers that cut the lead to 48-42 with 1:58 to play in the quarter but the Scots hit two free throws that pushed their lead to 50-42 after three quarters of action.

Hay opened the fourth quarter with a basket and Mifsud hit a jumper with 8:15 left to cut the Scots lead to 52-48.  Edinboro answered with a three pointer before both teams exchanged two free throws.  Kaufman scored on another layup and Green followed with a basket to cut the Scots lead to 57-54 with 3:38 to play.  That would be the last points the Griffins would score as the Scots scored the final eight points of the contest for the 65-54 victory.

Both teams shot 41 % from the floor in the contest.  The difference in the game was that the Scots were 7-14 from three point land while the Griffins were just 1-15.  Edinboro outrebounded the Griffins 39-35 with SHU turning the ball pver 13 times to the Scots 12.

Jenna Kaufman was the lone Griffin in double figures with 16 points.  She just missed a double double with 9 rebounds.  Jenna also added 5 assists and 2 steals.  Hannah Laslo finished the game with 9 points and 4 rebounds.  Jharrin Gill had a nice all around game with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal.

The Griffins will return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Clarion.  Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
