Seton Hill looked to continue the momentum it gained on Saturday when knocked off defending national champion California as they hosted Mercyhurst in another PSAC West matchup. Mercyhurst outscored the Griffins 43-22 in the odd quarters in route to a 67-58 road victory. SHU falls to 9-8 on the season and 5-6 in PSAC play while the Lakers improve to 9-9 overall and 7-5 in PSAC play.
It was the
Mariah Wells and Angela Heintz show early on in the contest as Wells accounted for the Griffins first 10 points and Heintz scored 13 points in the first quarter. A three pointer from Wells gave the Griffins a 10-5 advantage midway through the first quarter. Ten straight points from Heintz put the Lakers in front 15-11 with 1:56 to play in the quarter. The Lakers then connected on back to back three pointers to extend the lead to 21-11 before
Hannah Laslo hit one of two free throws to trim the lead to 21-12 at the end of the first quarter.
After Mercyhurst hit the first basket of the second quarter, the Griffins went on a 9-0 run with four points from Wells to trim the lead to 23-21 midway through the second quarter. The Lakers answered with four straight points before baskets from Laslo,
Jenna Kaufman and Wells tied the score at 27 at the halftime break.
Jharrin Gill gave the Griffins the lead with the first bucket of the second half. Mercyhurst then responded with four straight points before
Lindsey Mifsud drained a three pointer to give SHU a 32-31 advantage with 8:21 to play in the quarter. It would be the last lead the Griffins would hold. The Lakers ended the quarter on a 18-5 run to take a 49-37 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Lakers would build their lead up to as many as 13 points early in the fourth quarter and led 56-47 with 6:12 to play before the Griffins would make their final run. Gill hit a jumper to trim the lead to seven and Kaufman followed with a three pointer that cut the Laker lead to 56-52 with 4:10 to play. The Lakers responded with two straight baskets and hit seven free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
The Griffins outshot the Lakers from the floor, shooting 46% to their 41% but gave up 12 more shot attempts. SHU was also outrebounded by a 42-32 margin and committed 21 turnovers to just 14 for the Lakers.
Mariah Wells led the Griffins with 17 points. She also added 6 rebounds.
Jenna Kaufman also reached double figures with 15 points on 7-10 shooting. Kaufman also added 7 rebounds.

Hannah Laslo all tossed in 6 points.
SHU will hit the road for two games beginning with a trip to Gannon on Saturday evening.
