Huge Second Half Run Leads to Comeback Win over PSAC Western Division Leaders

Seton Hill looked to bounce back from a home loss to Mercyhurst as they hit the road to Erie, PA to take on PSAC Western Division leading Gannon on Saturday evening.  Gannon led the contest throughout and held a 42-29 lead midway through the third quarter but the Griffins used a 33-7 run over the final fifteen minutes of the contest in route to a 62-49 victory.  SHU scored the first seventeen points of the fourth quarter.  The Griffins improve to 10-8 overall and 6-6 in PSAC action.  Gannon falls to 11-5 overall and 9-3 in PSAC play.

Both teams got off to slow starts from the floor as the score was tied at five midway through the first quarter. Jenna Kaufman's layup gave the Griffins a 7-5 lead but the Knights closed the quarter on a 4-1 run to take an 11-8 lead after one quarter of play.

The Knights then opened the second half on a 13-2 run to build their lead to 24-10 with 4:27 to play in the first half.  Lindsey Mifsud ended the Gannon run with a three pointer.  A three pointer from Kaufman and a basket from Mifsud trimmed the lead to 28-20 with two minutes left in the half.  Gannon took a 32-22 lead into the halftime break.

Early in the second half, a jumper from Jharrin Gill and a free throw from Hannah Laslo cut the Gannon lead to 32-25.  Gannon then scored seven straight before Alexandra Hay scored back to back buckets to trim the Knights lead to 39-29.  Gannon followed with a three to increase their lead to 42-29 with 4:42 left in the quarter.  That is when the Griffins took over the game.  Kaufman started the run with a three pointer.  Baskets from Kinross Obiefule and Laslo and four free throws cut the Gannon lead to 44-40 after three quarters of play.  SHU closed the third quarter on a 11-2 run.

Chrisanna Green opened the scoring in the fourth quarter and Hay followed by draining a three pointer to put the Griffins ahead 45-44 early in the fourth quarter.  Green scored four points and Mariah Wells also added four points as the Griffins opened a 57-44 lead.  SHU held Gannon scoreless for the first 6:54 of the fourth quarter while outscoring the Knights 13-0.  The Knights hit a three to trim the lead to eight with 2:11 to play but Kaufman answered right back with a basket to push the lead back to ten points.  After another defensive stop, Hay drilled another three pointer to put the game away and give SHU a 62-49 lead with just over a minute to play in the contest.

Seton Hill shot 50% from the floor in the second half while holding Gannon to just 23%.  The Griffins outrebounded the Knights 37-35 and committed only 11 turnovers to the Knights 15.

Jenna Kaufman led the Griffins with 16 points.  She also added 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.  Alexandra Hay also hit double figures with 12 points.  Hay also dished out 6 assists.  Chrisanna Green just missed double figures with 9 points.

SHU will return to the court on Wednesday evening when they travel to Indiana (PA) to take on the now West leading Crimson Hawks.
