Griffins Sweep PSAC Crossovers with 4-0 Record

Seton Hill hosted East Stroudsburg and Kutztown on Saturday afternoon to close out the first round of PSAC crossovers at home in the McKenna Center.  The Griffins defeated the Warriors by a 3-0 score in the morning's first game and then defeated Kutztown 3-1 in the night cap to go 2-0 on the day and 4-0 in the crossovers. SHU improves to 13-3 on the season and 4-0 in PSAC play. 

The first set against East Stroudsburg was close early before SHU went on a 6-0 run to take a 14-6 lead.  The Griffins were able to close out the set with a 25-13 win.  East Stroudsburg scored the first four points of the second set.  The Warriors built their lead up to 11-7 before the Griffins went on a run.  Kills from Rachel Satira, Jenna Sassack and Maggie Murray cut the lead to 11-10.  Another set of kills from Murray and Sassack gave the Griffins a 13-12 lead.  Two kills from Katie Wenson increased the lead to 16-13.  ESU then cut the SHU lead to 19-18 before back to back kills from Wenson put SHU ahead 21-18.  SHU went on to take the set 25-19.  ESU jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the third set.  The Griffins then went on a 7-0 run to take a 12-6 lead.  SHU used a second 7-0 run to increase their lead to 19-7 and went on to end the match with a 25-14 win. 

Cassie Hausfeld and Shelby Kyllo led the Griffins with 7 kills each.  Katie Wenson added 6.  Shelby Kyllo had 2 blocks.  Maggie Murray had a match high 27 assists and Lauren Teed finished with 8 digs.

SHU came out of the gates fast against Kutztown and took an early 4-1 and 8-4 lead in the first set.  The Golden Bears responded and cut the lead to 9-8.  Two kills from Hausfeld and one from Murray and Kyllo pushed the lead to 17-9.  SHU was able to take the first set by a score of 25-13.  The second set was tight early as neither team could take more than a three point lead.  Back to back kills from Abigail Malsch gave SHU a 17-16 lead.  The Griffins then went on a 5-2 run to push the lead to 22-18.  Hausfeld ended the set with a kill and SHU winning 25-19.  SHU built an 11-6 lead in the third set.  Kutztown tied the set at 13.  Kills from Hausfeld and Kyllo gave SHU a 17-15 lead.  Kutztown came back and took a 23-21 lead.  Two SHU points tied the set at 23 but the Golden Bears scored the last two points to win the set 25-23.  SHU took a 7-3 lead in the fourth set.  KU then tied the set at 7.  SHU was able to build a 17-11 lead.  The Griffins were able to close out the match with a 25-19 win.

Cassie Hausfeld led with 15 kills.  Shelby Kyllo followed with 14 and Abigail Malsch added 10.  Jenna Sassack and Kyllo each had 3 blocks.  Maggie Murray had a match high 38 assists.  Lauren Teed finished with a team high 18 digs.  Cassie Hausfeld added 10.

SHU will be off until next weekend when they travel to Gannon and Mercyhurst to open up PSAC West play.
