Seton Hill opened PSAC West play in Erie, PA on Friday night as they took on the Knights from Gannon. SHU defeated the Knights three times last season including once in the PSAC quarterfinal and ended the Knights season at the NCAA Atlantic Regional. The Knights got some sort of revenge on Friday night with a four set victory over the Griffins. SHU falls to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in PSAC play. Gannon improves to 11-3 overal and 4-1 in PSAC play.
SHU took a quick 3-0 lead in the first set on a Gannon service error and kills from
Shelby Kyllo and
Rachel Satira. The Griffins built their lead to 6-3 before the Knights went on a 7-1 run to take a 10-7 lead. SHU trailed 17-13 before the Knights scored 8 of the final 10 points of the match for a 25-15 first set win. Gannon took a 5-2 lead in the second set. SHU then went on a 4-0 run on kills from
Katie Wenson and
Jenna Sassack and a block from Sassack and
Maggie Murray. Gannon retook a 9-7 lead before SHU scored five straight to take a 12-9 lead. Two kills from
Cassie Hausfeld and an ace from
Lauren Teed pushed the SHU lead to 20-12. GU trimmed the lead to 20-17 before the Griffins took the second set 25-22 on a
Katie Wenson block.
Gannon led 7-2 early in the third set. SHU battled back to tie the set at 14. After a Gannon kill, kills from
Emily Gilles and
Shelby Kyllo and a block from Kyllo and Murray gave SHU an 18-15 lead. Hausfeld gave SHU a 23-20 lead with a kill. Gannon then scored 6 of the last 7 points for a 26-24 third set win. The Knights took an 8-3 lead in the fourth set. SHU went on a 4-0 run to trim the lead to 11-10. Sassack tied the score at 13 with a kill. A block from Hausfeld and Kyllo got SHU to within one at 17-16 but the Knights rolled off 5 straight to take a 22-16 lead. Two kills from Kyllo, one from Gilles and a Hausfeld service ace cut the lead back to 22-20 but Gannon was able to close out the match with a 25-22 win.
Cassie Hausfeld led the Griffins with 11 kills.
Emily Gilles added 7 and
Jenna Sassack finished with 5 kills.
Shelby Kyllo had a team high 8 blocks and
Maggie Murray added 7. Murray had a match high 29 assists and
Lauren Teed had a match high 22 digs.
SHU continues PSAC West play on Saturday when they take on Mercyhurst.
