The Seton Hill tennis team won a pair of matches to start the 2015 season, defeating Saint Vincent College (SVC) 7-2 on Tuesday and the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg 6-3 on Wednesday.

The Griffins won five of the six three-set single matches and two of three doubles matches verses SVC. They picked up wins in four of six single matches and two of three double matches against UPG.

In decisive fashion, Senior
Sara Ruiz, won both her No. 2 single matches 6-0, 6-0 and has yet to drop a game in singles this season. She also picked up the win in No. 1 doubles match with her partner, senior,
Isidora Knezevic 8-2 against SVC and 8-0 versus UPG.

Ruiz says preparation was the key to the team and her early success, "We all practiced during the summer and once we went back to SHU, we played a lot of matches in practice – singles and doubles – and we all worked on our individual weaknesses."

Freshman
Madison DeBone won her first single collegiate match 6-0, 6-0 verses SVC and also her No. 2 doubles match with sophomore partner
Paula Carvajalino 8-1.

The team's next matches will be the PSAC Championships held at Bloomsburg, PA, starting on Saturday, September 12
th and concluding on Sunday.

Ruiz says they are looking for more than just a win, "…the most important part of the PSAC Championships is the opportunity to play great players and gain experience and confidence in order to apply it in our regular season."
