Box Score Seton Hill looked to avoid elimination in the NCAA Atlantic Regional in Buckhannon, WV on Saturday afternoon when they battled West Chester in an elimination game. SHU scored three times in the bottom of the fifth and held on for a 3-2 victory over West Chester to advance in the tournament. SHU improves to 32-14-1 on the season.
Christine Henderson retired the Rams 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning. After the Griffins went down 1-2-3 in their half of the first, Henderson responded with a 1-2-3 top of the second. WCU got two runners on with one out in the third but Henderson got a strikeout and fly out to end the inning. Henderson worked around a one out double with two flyouts to end the top of the fourth. SHU threatened with the first two runners getting on.
Carlee Wickstrom singled to lead off the inning. She advanced to second when she beat the throw to second on a bunt attempt from
Victoria Stock. The Griffins couldn't capitalize as a pop out and two ground outs ended the inning.
The Griffins finally broke thru in the bottom of the fifth.
Paige Hertzog walked to lead off the inning. She moved to second on a sac bunt from
Jacqui Palmer. After a fly out,
Delaney Cortazzo drew a walk. Wixkstrom then drove in a run with a shot to left field. Stock followed with an RBI single and Wickstrom scored on a heads up play when the Rams left home plate uncovered. WCU answered with two runs in the top of the sixth inning on a two run homer to cut the lead to 3-2. WCU got two runners on base in the top of the seventh inning but Henderson got a strikeout to end the game and move the Griffins on in the tournament.
Carlee Wickstrom led the offense with 2 hits.
Christine Henderson earned the win in the circle. She went the distance, giving up 5 hits while striking out 6.
SHU will look to stay alive when they battle Concord in another elimination game at 3 PM.
