Strong First Half Carries Griffins to 17-9 Win

The Griffins closed out their home portion of the regular season schedule with a matchup with East Stroudsburg on Wednesday afternoon.  Seton Hill outscored the Warriors 11-1 in the first half in route to a 17-9 victory.  SHU is now 12-4 overall and 8-3 in PSAC play.  The Griffins are currently tied for third place in the PSAC with West Chester and Indiana.  The #3 and #4 seeds get to host a first round PSAC playoff matchup on Tuesday afternoon.

Emma Simmers scored twice in the first five minutes of the contest to give the Griffins an early 2-0 lead.  Christine Palmeri and Renee Kania assisted on the two goals.  Back to back goals from Alessandra Nicholas increased the Griffins lead to 4-0.  Emily Fagan assisted on Nicholas' second goal.  Simmers scored her third of the game to give SHU a 5-0 lead with 11:44 left in the half.  Twenty five seconds later East Stroudsburg got their only goal of the half.  SHU scored the final six goals of the half to take a 11-1 lead into the halftime break.  Simmers and Palmeri each scored twice during the six goal run.  Keagan Pontious and Savannah Monroe each added a goal during the run.  Kania assisted on two goals, while Fagan and Monroe each picked up one assist.

East Stroudsburg came out strong in the second half, scoring 5 of the first 8 goals of the half to trim the SHU lead to 14-6 with 15 minutes remaining in the half.  Kania scored the first goal for the Griffins while Fagan added the next two.  SHU then scored twice in 15 seconds on goals from Fagan and Palmeri which pushed the lead to 16-6 with 14:23 to play in the half.  Fagan scored the final Griffin goal with 9:34 to play in the half.

Emma Simmers led the Griffins with 5 goals.  She also added 1 assist.  Emily Fagan finished with a game high 7 points on 4 goals and 3 assists.  Christine Palmeri added 3 goals and an assist.  Alessandra Nicholas found the back of the net twice.  Renee Kania finished with 5 assists.  Meghan Hollar earned the win in cage, making 5 saves.  Melanie Morgret added 3 saves.

SHU concluded the regular season at Indiana on Saturday needing a win to secure a home PSAC playoff matchup.  With a win, SHU clinches at least the fourth seed in the PSAC.
