Griffins Upset #10 Rollins; Simmers Scores 200th Career Goal

Seton Hill continued their weekend trip in Arnold, MD on Sunday afternoon with a neutral site matchup with #10 Rollins at Anne Arundel CC.  Keagan Pontious scored five times and Emma Simmers scored three including her 200th career goal in the Griffins 11-10 victory over the Tars.  Seton Hill improves to 11-4 on the season following the win and the Tars falls to 11-4.  The game had huge regional impact as the Griffins were just outside the top 6 in the south region while the Tars were fourth in the first NCAA Regional Rankings.

Rollins scored the first two goals of the contest and led 2-0 twenty minutes into the contest.  Seton Hill got on the scoreboard at the 17:31 mark on a goal from Keagan Pontious on an assist from Charlotte Cunningham.  Fourty six seconds later Pontious scored her second of the game to tie the score at two. Cunningham also assisted on that goal.  Less than a minute later Rollins retook a 3-2 lead.  SHU then went on a 4-0 run over a seven minute stretch to take a 6-3 lead.  Emma Simmers scored the first two goals of the run including her 200th career goal at the 11:24 mark of the first half.  Savannah Monroe and Emily Fagan assisted on the Simmers goals.  Christine Palmeri scored from Pontious and Pontious scored from Palmeri to complete the four goal run.  The Tars trimmed the lead to 6-4 with a goal at the 8:22 mark of the half.  Back to back SHU goals from Tristen Hanke and Fagan increased the lead to 8-4.  Rollins trimmed the lead to 8-5 before Simmers scored her third of the half to give SHU a 9-5 halftime advantage.

The Tars outscored the Griffins 5-2 in the second half but SHU held on for the victory.  Rollins scored the first two goals of the second half to cut the lead to 9-7.  Pontious then scored her fourth of the contest to push the lead back to 10-7 with 15:43 to play.  Rollins scored just over a minute later but Pontious answered with a goal at the 5:35 mark of the half to give SHU a 11-8 lead.  The Tars scored 28 seconds later and cut the SHU lead to 11-10 with 2:16 to play.  Rollins had one last chance to tie it but a caused turnover and ground ball from Simmers ended the ballgame. 

Keagan Pontious led the Griffins with 5 goals.  She also added 1 assist.  Emma Simmers added 3 goals.  Christine Palmeri finished the game with 1 goal and 2 assists.  Meghan Hollar recorded 12 saves in net for the win. 

Seton Hill will close out their home portion of the regular season with a PSAC matchup with East Stroudsburg on Wednesday afternoon.
