Box Score The Griffins opened their first of back to back games in style with a 17-8 PSAC road win at Millersville on Saturday afternoon. SHU jumped out to a 9-3 lead at the half and never looked back in the win. SHU improves to 10-4 overall and 7-3 in PSAC play.
Millersville scored six minutes into the contest to take a 1-0 lead. Back to back goals from
Emma Simmers gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead early in the first half. The Marauders tied the score at two before goals from
Keagan Pontious and
Savannah Monroe increased the SHU lead to 4-2 with 8:51 left in the half. Millersville scored with 6:02 left to cut the lead to 4-3 but five straight Griffin goals gave them a 9-3 halftime lead.
Tristen Hanke and
Christine Palmeri each scored two during the five goal run with Simmers getting her third goal of the game as the fifth in the run.
The Marauders scored the first goal of the second half before SHU went on a 6 goal run to extend their lead to 15-4 with just over 21 minutes to play in the half. Hanke scored twice during the run with Pontious, Simmers,
Emily Fagan and
Nellie Phillips each scored once. Millersville scored four of the last six goals with Fagan netting the two Griffin goals.
Emma Simmers and
Tristen Hanke each scored four goals in the contest. Simmers also added 4 assists.
Emily Fagan finished the contest with 3 goals and 5 assists.
Keagan Pontious and
Christine Palmeri each scored twice.
Meghan Hollar recorded 6 saves in cage to earn the win.
SHU will continue their road trip with a neutral site contest against #10 Rollins at Anne Arundel Community College on Sunday.
