Box Score 2 The Griffins hosted first place California (PA) on a cloudy and cool Tuesday afternoon. SHU defeated the Vulcans earlier this year to deal the Vulcans their only loss of the conference season. The Griffins defeated the Vulcans by a 2-0 score in game one. SHU completed the sweep with a 4-3 win in game two. The sweep marks the first time since the 2008 season that the Vulcans were swept in a PSAC West doubleheader. Lock Haven took all four games from the Vulcans that season. SHU is now 21-8-1 overall and 13-6-1 in PSAC West action.
The Griffins
Christine Henderson and Cal's Alex Sagl hooked up in a pitcher's dual for the first three innings. Henderson had 7 strikeouts thru three innings and Sagl did not give up a hit thru three. Seton Hill got their first hit in the fourth when Henderson broke up the no hitter with a single. After a fly out,
Kaitlyn Kutchman homered to left field to break up the shutout and give SHU a 2-0 lead. Henderson was able to retire the Vulcans in order in the seventh for the shutout.
Christine Henderson earned the win in the circle. She went the distance giving up 4 hits and striking out 10 while walking none.
California scored their first run of the doubleheader in the top of the second inning of game two. They scored their run on two hits. SHU retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning. After two outs
Paige Hertzog and
Jacqui Palmer singled. Both scored when
Carlee Wickstrom doubled to right center field. California tied the score at two with a run in the top of the third. Cal retook the lead with a leadoff solo homer to right field in the top of the fifth. SHU tied the score at three in the bottom of the fifth. Wickstrom singled and scored when
Lauren Sauerwein scored. SHU took the lead in the sixth on an unearned run.
Delaney Cortazzo singled to lead off and was thrown out at the plate on Hertzog's double. Hertzog then scored when Palmer reached on an error.
Christine Henderson earned her second win of the day in relief. She gave up 1 run on 4 hits in 3 innings.
Carlee Wickstrom was 3-4.
Lauren Sauerwein,
Kaitlyn Kutchman and
Paige Hertzog each had two hits.
Seton Hill will travel to Edinboro on Friday.
