Box Score 2 The Griffin softball team hosted first year PSAC West for Pitt Johnstown on Monday afternoon in a PSAC West doubleheader. Seton Hill pounded out 20 hits in a doubleheader sweep of the Mountain Cats. SHU took game one by a 7-2 score and won game two by a 9-1 margin in 5 innings. Seton Hill improves to 13-5 overall and 5-3 in PSAC West action.
Seton Hill scored six times in the second inning of game one to take control of the contest. Back to back one out doubles from
Lauren Sauerwein and
Hope Pehrson gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
Kelsey Kuhns followed with an RBI single to score Pehrson.
Carlee Wickstrom then added a 2 RBI double to increase the lead to 4-0. After an out,
Christine Henderson hit a two run homer to give SHU the 6-0 lead. Pitt Johnstown scored two unearned runs it the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 6-2. Sauerwein singled in
Paige Hertzog in the fifth for the Griffins seventh run.
Amanda Huff earned the win in relief of starter
Hope Pehrson, Pehrson threw three scoreless innings to start the game. Huff struck out 8 in her 4 innings of work.
Christine Henderson finished 3-3 with 2 RBI.
Lauren Sauerwein and
Kelsey Kuhns each had 2 hits in the win.
Pitt Johnstown took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning of game two. The Griffins responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Carlee Wickstrom homered to lead off the inning. Back to back doubles from
Victoria Stock and
Christine Henderson increased the lead to 2-1. Henderson added two more RBIs in the fourth inning when she singled in
Delaney Cortazzo and Wickstrom. The Griffins ended the game with 5 runs in the fifth inning.
Paige Hertzog led off the inning with a double.
Lauren Sauerwein singled and Hertzog moved to third.
Erika Arriola pinch ran for Sauerwein and stole second base.
Caitlin Tobin walked to load the bases and Hertzog scored when
Kelsey Kuhns reached on an error. Cortazzo then knocked in two with a double to make it 7-1 and Wickstrom ended the game with a 2 RBI double.
Kaitlyn Kutchman earned her third win of the season.
Christine Henderson picked up her second save of the season.
Carlee Wickstrom was 3-4 with 3 RBIs. Henderson added 2 hits and 3 RBI.
Delaney Cortazzo added 2 hits and 2 RBI.
The Griffins are now scheduled to host Indiana on Tuesday afternoon in a game that was originally scheduled for Indiana.
