Box Score Seton Hill hit the road for the first time in PSAC play on Tuesday evening as they traveled to Slippery Rock for a matchup under the lights at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. The Griffins escaped with a 14-13 double overtime victory with
Christine Palmeri scored the game winning goal 1:59 into the second overtime period. SHU improves to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in PSAC play.
Slippery Rock scored the first goal of the contest on a free position shot just 1:19 into the contest.
Keagan Pontious tied the score at one with a goal from
Christine Palmeri at the 21:35 mark of the half. Less than a minute later,
Renee Kania gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead. The Rock tied the score at two before
Emily Fagan put SHU back ahead with a goal with 18:09 left in the half.
Emma Simmers got her first of the contest on a free position shot with 10:39 to play. SRU cut the lead to 4-3 with 41 seconds to play but Simmers scored her second free position shot goal with 27 seconds to play to give the Griffins a 5-3 halftime lead.
The Rock scored the first goal of the second half to cut the lead to 5-4. SHU then scored three goals in 1:27 to push the lead to 8-4. Palmeri, Kania and Pontious scored the goals during the three goal run. After the Rock ended the 3-0 spurt with a goal, the Griffins went on another three goal spurt to build the lead to 11-5 with 15:12 to play in the half.
Alessandra Nicholas opened the run and Kania and Pontious followed with goals. The Rock then went on a 7-0 run over an eight minute stretch to take their first lead of the contest at 12-11 with 6:09 to play in the contest. Melanie Morgret made two saves in the last five seconds to keep the game tied.
The Rock scored a goal 48 seconds into the overtime period to take a 13-12 lead.
Christine Palmeri tied the score at 13 off a feed from Nicholas with 36 seconds left in the first OT period sending the game to a second sudden victory OT period. Seton Hill took possession in the second overtime period when Fagan took the draw control and the Griffins held the ball for the rest of the overtime period. The Griffins won the game on their third shot of the overtime period when Palmeri scored 1:59 into the second overtime period to give the Griffins the victory.
