Greensburg, PA- The Seton Hill men's lacrosse team defeated interstate opponent Mercyhurst University 10-8 at Dicks Sporting Goods Field on Saturday afternoon. Dylan Gelven lead with three goals as the Griffins move onto a 5-1 overall record and remain unbeaten, 2-0, in ECAC play.
 
Erick Hultgren scored the first goal of the game for the Griffins on a 15-yard shot assisted by Zack Rusch. The Lakers scored later on in the first quarter with 3:38 on the clock to tie the game at 1. In the last two minutes of the first quarter, Brian Barnes and Dylan Gelven both scored to give the Griffins a 3-1 lead.
 
At half time the score was tied 3 to 3.

The third quarter posssessions went back-and-forth and the game was tied back up 5-5 with 2:27 remaining in the quarter. With the Seton Hill coaches calling for the last shot, Garret Howell set up behind the cage with little time left on the clock and dodged his man to the net and scored with 00:04 seconds remaining in the third quarter to give Seton Hill the lead 4-3.
 
The Griffins went on to score three more goals in the fourth quarter to make a 4-goal scoring run that made the score 9-5
 
Mercyhurst add a two-goal run of their own to make the score 9-7 with 05:47 left in the game.
 
With less than 2 minutes to play, the Griffins were on an offensive possession and planned to run out the time as they were up by two goals. The Mercyhurst defense pulled their goalie and doubled the ball carrier. Dylan Gelven beat the double team and scored with 1:11 left to give Seton Hill a three-goal lead late in the game.
 
Off the ensuing faceoff Mercyhurst was able to score and decrease the Griffin lead back to two, but it wasn't enough to come back. Seton Hill managed the remaining time on the clock and held on to win 10-8.

The Seton Hill men's lacrosse team will return to action when they host Walsh University on Tuesday, March 24 at Dick's Sporting Goods Field. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
