Box Score The Griffins women's lacrosse team closed out its Florida spring break trip with a matchup with #7 Florida Southern in Lakeland, FL. SHU battled the Mocs but fell by a score of 13-10. SHU drops to 3-1 on the season.
Florida Southern took a 2-0 lead with two goals in the first 4:35 of the contest. SHU answered with two goals, one each from
Emily Fagan and
Emma Simmers to tie the score at two with just over 20 minutes left in the half. The Mocs then scored the next four goals of the contest to take a 6-2 lead with 10 minutes to play. Fagan then scored twice to trim the lead to 6-4 with 4:36 to play. Florida Southern got a late goal with 8 seconds to play in the half to take a 7-4 halftime advantage.
SHU trimmed the lead to 7-6 with two goals to start the half.
Keagan Pontious and
Renee Kania each scored to cut the lead to one. Florida Southern then scored 5 of the next 6 goals to take a 12-7 advantage with 5:18 to play. SHU got goals from Fagan, Simmers and Pontious to cut the lead to 12-10 with 2:30 to play but could not score again.
Emily Fagan led the offense with 4 goals.
Emma Simmers and
Keagan Pontious each scored 2 goals. Simmers added an assist.
Renee Kania added a goal and 3 assists with
Tristen Hanke adding a goal.
Meghan Hollar recorded 8 saves in cage.
SHU will open up PSAC play next Saturday when they host Gannon at 3 PM.
