Griffins Drop Heartbreaker to #1 Limestone, 12-11 in OT

Box Score

Seton Hill traveled to Gaffney, SC to take on the #1 team in the nation, the Saints of Limestone.  SHU gave the Saints all they could handle but dropped a heartbreaker in overtime by the score of 12-11.  SHU drops to 4-1 on the season while the Saints improve to 8-0.

Limestone opened the scoring with a goal less than two minutes into the contest.  SHU answered back with two goals to take a 2-1 lead after the first quarter.  Shane Pettke scored unassisted at the 10 minute mark and Erik Hultgren put SHU ahead 2-1 after one quarter of play.  Limestone scored twice in the second quarter with Hultgren scoring the lone Griffin goal of the quarter and the game entered the halftime break tied at 3.

Zach Rusch gave SHU a 4-3 lead with a goal at the 13:02 mark of the third quarter.  The Saints answered to tie the score at 4.  Dylan Gelven then scored back to back goals to give SHU a 6-4 lead with 6:20 left in the third.  Limestone scored 4 straight goals to take an 8-6 lead but goals by Marc Piche and Gelven late in the period tied the score at 8 heading to the fourth quarter.

Hultgren put SHU ahead 9-8 with a goal at the 12:47 mark.  Limestone tied the score with 8:13 to play.  Less than two minutes later Gelven put SHU back ahead 10-9.  Exactly two minutes later Limestone tied the score at 10.  Hartmann gave SHU a 11-10 lead with 55 seconds to play but the Saints tied the score with a goal with 13 seconds to play to send the game to overtime.

Limestone won the faceoff and had possession for the entire overtime period, taking three shots.  The first was high, the second was stopped by Griffin keeper Brady Lawrence but he was unable to control the rebound and the Saints picked it up and put it in the back of the cage for the game winning goal one minute into overtime.

Dylan Gelven led the SHU attack with 4 goals.  Zach Hartmann added 3 goals.  Marc Piche added a goal and 2 assists.  Brady Lawrence recorded 19 saves in net.
