Box Score Greensburg, PA- The #9 Seton Hill men's lacrosse team defeated #13 nationally ranked Mercy College 12-11 on Saturday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Field. The Griffins are now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in ECAC play.
The Mercy College Mavericks jumped out to a two-goal lead after an assisted goal at 7:59 by Robert Rossi and a man-up goal at 7:07.
Seton Hill stopped the two-goal Maverick run by a man-up goal by
Hunter Hayes for his first career goal as a Griffin.
Marc Piche assisted on the man-up play.
Mercy scored again with 2:25 left in the first quarter. Shortly later,
Dylan Gelven answered to tie the game up at 3 with 1:52 remaining in the first. Mercy won the ensuing faceoff and set up their offense to add another Maverick goal to go up 4-3.
Mercy scored first in the second half. With the score 5-3,
Sean Stanners added his first goal of the afternoon on a man-up shot to decrease the Maverick lead to just one. With 0:38 remaining in the first half, sophomore
Zack Rusch scored unassisted to tie the game once again before the end of the period. Half time score: Griffins 5-Mercy 5.
Seton Hill started the second half with a two-goal run to gain their first lead of the game. Stanners with his second goal on another man-up shot for the Griffins 6
th goal and Rush scored on another unassisted goal giving the Griffins the 7-5 lead.
Mercy scored another assisted goal that decreased the late Griffin lead back to one.
After settling down their offense, the Griffins were able to rattle off three goals in a row to go up 10-6 with 3:16 left in the third period. Mercy was able to break the run on their following possession. Then with 0:17 left in the third period,
Dylan Gelven scooped up a ground ball in the defensive end and rushed the ball up the field on an odd man break and dished the ball to
Cody Golon who found the back of the net with only 10 seconds remaining. Griffins 11- Mercy 7
Seton Hill held on to their offensive momentum in the fourth period and added their 12
th goal with 11:35 remaining in the game.
The Mavericks were able to close their deficit by scoring 4 goals late in the game to come within just one goal with 1:51 remaining on the clock.
Anthony Peluso won the following faceoff and the Griffin offense was able to kill the remaining time on the clock to outlast Mercy and win the game, 12 to 11.

Ryan McHugh added 4 groundballs and 2 caused turnovers.
Matt Mahood contributed 2 groundballs and 2 caused turnovers and
Josh Albo added 3 groundballs for the defensive unit.
