WLAX: Griffins Win Season Opener 12-7

Greensburg, PA- The Seton Hill women's lacrosse team beat the Lake Erie Storm 12-7 for their first win of the season. The Griffins are now 1-0 overall and 0-0 in PSAC play.
 
Seton Hill started the game with two quick goals from Emma Simmers and Emily Fagan to gain the two-goal advantage at 26:11.

Lake Erie scored at 23:11 to make the score 2-1.  Fagan was able to score two more for the Griffins to increase the lead to 4-1. LEC quickly answered with two of their own with 8:14 remaining in the first half to decrease the SHU lead to just one.
 
Seton Hill went on a three goal run before half time with goals from Renee Kania, Keagan Pontious, and Emma Simmers. Half time score 7-3.
 
Seton Hill was able to continue their goal scoring run with two more to make the score 9-3 early in the second half.
 
LEC and Seton Hill trade goals for the rest of the half and at the final horn, Seton Hill held the lead and won 12-7.
 
Seton Hill outshot Lake Erie 37-18. Seton Hill out groundballed Lake Erie 27-12. There were only 7 turnovers for the Griffins today. Another great stat of the night, 10 out of 12 Seton Hill goals were assisted.
 
Lake Erie went 3-6 on free position shots compared to Seton Hill's 0-5 free position shot attempts.
 
Starting goaltender, Meghan Hollar added 1 save and Melanie Morgret, who saw time at the end of the game, recorded 4 saves for the Griffins.
 
Scoring Summary:
Freshman draw specialist and midfielder, Keegan Pontious scored 1 goal and 2 assists. Emma Simmers scored 4 goals and 1 assist. Emily Fagan scored 5 goals on 6 shots.
 
Christine Palmeri scored 1 goal and 2 assists. Starting attackman, Charlotte Cunningham, contributed 2 assists. Renee Kania added 1 goal and 1 assist. Sophomore attackman, Tristen Hanke and freshman midfielder, Nellie Phillips added 1 assist each.
 
Seton Hill will return to action this Sunday, March 1 as they host Shepherd University at 4 pm at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.
