Box Score Seton Hill made the short trip thru a snowstorm to take on the #18 Vulcans of California (PA) on Wednesday evening. SHU jumped out to a 15-0 lead but the Vulcans outscored them 41-7 the rest of the half in route to a 73-54 victory. SHU falls to 11-15 overall and 7-13 in PSAC play.
The Griffins jumped all over the Vulcans, scoring the first 10 points of the game and forcing a Cal timeout.
Jenna Kaufman opened the scoring with a three and
Kelly Brennan followed with 7 straight points to give SHU the 10-0 lead with 17:21 to play in the half.
Meghan Mastroianni then hit a jumper as the Griffins built their lead to 12-0 at the first media timeout.
Mariah Wells then hit a three to push the SHU lead to 15-0. SHU then went over six minutes without scoring, committing 7 turnovers with the Vulcans cutting the lead to 15-14 with 9:25 to play in the half.
Halie Torris ended the SHU scoring drought with a three pointer at the 9:10 mark of the half.
Chelsea Apke tied the score at 20 with a layup at the 5:55 mark of the half. Cal then went on an 18-0 run before Brennan hit a layup to end the run. Cal then hit a three at the buzzer to take a 41-22 lead at the half.
A three pointer from Brennan and a layin from Mastroianni cut the Vulcans lead to 49-33 with just under 16 minutes to play in the half. Mastroianni followed with 4 more points and Brennan hit a layup after a steal and SHU cut the Vulcans lead to 51-39 with 14:35 to go. Wells hit a three and SHU trailed 58-46 with 10 minutes to play in the half. Cal then went on a 7-0 run to take a 65-46 lead with seven minutes to play. Back to back layups from Brennan and Mastroianni cut the lead to 69-52 with three minutes to play.
Kelly Brennan again led the Griffins with 20 points.
Meghan Mastroianni was the other Griffin in double figures with 15 points.
Seton Hill will close out their home schedule on Saturday when they host Mercyhurst for Senior Day. Tip is set for 1 PM.
