Seton Hill continued PSAC Crossover action on Saturday afternoon as they battled Shippensburg on the road. The Griffins battled throughout and were tied at 59 with 2:30 to play but were outscored 5-0 down the stretch for a 64-59 loss. SHU is now 5-4 overall and 2-3 in PSAC play.
Shippensburg scored the first four points of the contest before
Mariah Wells answered with a three pointer of her own to trim the lead to 4-3. The Raiders were able to extend their lead to 14-9 at the first media timeout of the game at the 3:57 mark.
Kinross Obiefule scored five straight points for the Griffins and 8 in the quarter but the Raiders held a 22-15 lead at the end of one quarter.
Ship hit two free throws to open the second quarter before basket from
Jessica Slagus and a three pointer from
Alexandra Hay cut the lead to 24-20 early in the second quarter. Ship responded to take a 28-22 lead at the media timeout. The Griffins used a 7-0 run on two baskets from Obiefule and a three from Wells to cut the lead to 32-29 with 1:50 left in the half. Ship converted a three point play before
Lindsey Mifsud drilled back to back threee pointers to tie the score at 35 at the half.
Mifsud hit the first basket of the half to give the Griffins a 37-35 lead. The Raiders then went on a 8-3 run to take a 45-40 lead at the 4:07 mark of the quarter. Mifsud then hit a three pointer with 25 seconds left in the half to cut the lead to 49-47 but Ship hit two free throws to take a 51-47 lead after three quarters.
Ship build their lead to 57-49 early in the fourth quarter. Back to back threes from Wells cuts the Ship lead to 57-55 with 5:28 left in the fourth quarter. Mifsud then tied the score at 57 and 59 with buckets the last at the 2:30 mark. Ship then hit five of six free throws as the Griffins could not connect on a field goal in the final 2:30 of the game.
The Griffins finished the game shooting 44%, including 40% from three point land. The difference in the game was Ship scored 21 points off 19 SHU turnovers while the Griffins only scored 10 points off of 15 Ship turnovers.
Mariah Wells led the Griffins with 18 points.
Lindsey Mifsud finished the game with 15 points and
Kinross Obiefule added 12 points.
The Griffins will travel to Ursuline College next Saturday for a 2 PM start.
