The Griffins returned to the court after a week of finals with a road contest at Ursuline on Saturday afternoon. SHU trailed by just five points after three quarters but were outscored 27-11 in the fourth quarter in the non conference road matchup. The Arrows used the big fourth quarter in route to a 71-50 victory. The Griffins fall to 5-5 on the season while the Arrows improve to 8-1.
Ursuline jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before the Griffins with a 10-4 run to take a 10-9 lead with 4:38 left in the first quarter. A jumper from
Halie Torris increased the lead to 12-9 but the Arrows scored the final four points of the quarter for a 13-12 lead. A layup from
Jessica Slagus gave SHU a 18-16 lead early in the second quarter. The Arrows built their lead to 34-27 but SHU scored the final four points of the quarter and trailed 34-31 at the half.
Ursuline opened the second half on a 10-2 run to build the lead to 44-33 with just over four minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Griffins then went on a 6-0 run to trim the lead to 44-39 at the end of the third quarter.
Lindsey Mifsud hit a three pointer to cut the lead to 49-42 with 8:42 left in the fourth quarter. The Arrows then went on an 8-0 run to increase the lead to 57-42 and take control of the contest. The Arrows built their lead to as many as 23 points before settling for the 71-50 win.
Jharrin Gill led the Griffins with 12 points.
Halie Torris also reached double figures with 10 points.
Alexandra Hay and
Kinross Obiefule each tossed in 6 points.
SHU will return to PSAC West play on Wednesday when they travel to Clarion.
